October 8, 2026
"For years, customers have asked us when a new H‑E‑B would come closer to downtown Fort Worth, and with our new store on Chisholm Parkway, we can now say that day is soon."
That was Stephen Butt, president of H-E-B Shareholder Relations, on October 2, 2026. That day H-E-B said it had bought more than 20 acres at the northeast corner of Chisholm Trail Parkway and Oakmont Boulevard. In H-E-B's timeline, "soon" means construction starting early next year, which is 2027, and a store expected to open in late 2028.
For anyone in Mira Vista, the store matters less than its address. It puts the next large piece of the Edwards family's development on Oakmont Boulevard, the street where much of the area's everyday shopping already happens. Over the next two years, that change will look like grading, framing and dealership construction long before it looks like a checkout line.
According to WFAA's coverage of the announcement, the nearest operating H-E-B is about 13 miles from the new site. In the meantime, the immediate area is served by a Walmart Supercenter and an Albertsons. Both are on Oakmont Boulevard. The Albertsons at Bryant Irvin and Oakmont is at 7400 Oakmont Blvd. The Walmart Supercenter is at 6300 Oakmont Blvd.
The new H-E-B will sit on the same boulevard, where it meets Chisholm Trail Parkway. A store that size, built where Oakmont meets the parkway, gives that corridor an anchor it has not had before.
The announcement has been framed as H-E-B finally reaching central Fort Worth. But the company already runs a store a short drive up the Hulen corridor. Central Market Fort Worth, at 4651 West Fwy, is an H-E-B division. The Fort Worth Report notes that Central Market has been in Fort Worth since 2001.
What's new is the full H-E-B format in southwest Fort Worth. In Tarrant County, that format currently means three stores:
A fourth store is planned closer in. H-E-B's Walsh store at FM 3325 and the Interstate 20 service road was scheduled to finish construction by December 2026, according to a state filing the Fort Worth Report cited in April. A construction schedule is not an opening date. Still, if Walsh opens on that timeline, it will likely be the nearest full-size H-E-B to Mira Vista for most of the time Overland is being built.
The store will be part of Overland, a 250-acre master-planned community on Edwards Ranch. The Edwards family has owned the ranch since 1848. The family's development arm, Cassco, has been building on that land since 1956. Its earlier projects include Clearfork, Riverhills, Overton Park and Tanglewood.
That history shapes what to expect from Overland. Clearfork changed the northern edge of Mira Vista's daily routine over many years. Overland is the same family's next step, this time to the south. The Fort Worth Report described the original filing as a project south of Clearfork.
Cassco has said little about the rest of the project. Here is what the public record shows so far:
The 146-acre annexation request and the 250-acre Overland community are different figures. The available reporting does not explain how they relate. There is also no published store size, no announced road extension or interchange plan, and no traffic study for the project. For now, the reliable facts are the corner, the acreage and the 2028 target.
Directly across Chisholm Trail Parkway, the nearly 75-acre Autobahn Fort Worth campus is still under construction. Autobahn has said the campus will bring Porsche, BMW, MINI, Volvo, Volkswagen and Land Rover together on one site. It also announced shared amenities that a car lot usually doesn't have: green space, a restaurant, a dog park, a lake, walking paths, pickleball courts and an off-road test track. The restaurant tenant has not been named. In March 2025, Autobahn said it was working with Far Out Hospitality Group on a restaurant pad.
The opening date is unclear. Autobahn's July 2025 groundbreaking announcement aimed for fall 2026. Earlier, in March 2025, the Fort Worth Report had reported a December 2026 target. As of the October 2 H-E-B coverage, construction was still underway.
The walking paths, dog park and pickleball courts matter for the neighborhood. If they open to the public as described, they will give this corner of the parkway a reason to visit before the grocery store exists.
The Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch, further south along the parkway, are already open and growing. Target Fort Worth Chisholm Trail is at 5900 Retail Way. WFAA described it as a 148,000-square-foot store at McPherson Boulevard and Chisholm Trail Parkway, expected to open in October 2025.
Next door, White Castle plans its second Texas location at 6013 Retail Way. Plans call for double drive-through lanes and patio seating. The July 2026 report said construction would begin in January and finish by April, but it did not give a year.
H-E-B also owns land in that center. In July, an urban forestry permit for 5501 Crescent Hill Lane, off McPherson Boulevard, called for "site grading for future development." H-E-B told the Fort Worth Report it had no information to share. The company often buys large parcels and then sells smaller tracts for other uses. The Crescent Hill grading should not be read as a second grocery store.
Until Overland opens, the stores that serve Mira Vista are already in place:
These are the dates to watch, in order:
