Fort Worth & Dallas Toll Roads

Lifestyle November 5, 2026

The house may check every box.

Does the drive still make sense five days a week?

When you’re choosing where to live in North Texas, mileage tells only part of the story. Your route, departure time and toll charges all influence what that commute feels like—and what it costs.

Chisholm Trail Parkway can connect southwest Fort Worth with downtown. Other toll roads help drivers move between employment centers across Tarrant and Dallas counties. The question worth asking is: Which route gives you the best balance of time, cost and convenience?

Here’s how to compare your options before making that drive part of everyday life.

Start with your route, not a regional average

There isn’t one flat price for driving a North Texas toll road. Charges depend on your entry and exit points, vehicle classification and payment method.

Start with these official resources:

Calculate the drive in both directions. Different ramps or an alternate route home can change the total.

Chisholm Trail Parkway: planning a southwest Fort Worth commute

Chisholm Trail Parkway stretches approximately 27.6 miles between Fort Worth and Cleburne. For households considering Mira Vista and other southwest Fort Worth neighborhoods, it is one route worth comparing with local-road alternatives.

What does it cost to drive from Mira Vista to downtown? There isn’t one neighborhood-wide fare. The answer depends on the neighborhood exit you use, where you enter the parkway and where you leave it.

For perspective, these are selected published charges for a standard two-axle vehicle:

Chisholm Trail collection point

TollTag

ZipCash

Montgomery mainline gantry

$1.78

$3.56

Edwards Ranch Road ramp

$0.75

$1.50

Arborlawn Drive ramp

$0.43

$0.86

Oakmont Boulevard ramp

$0.63

$1.26

Altamesa Boulevard ramp

$0.98

$1.96

Stewart Feltz mainline gantry

$2.88

$5.76

These are individual collection-point charges, not complete commute prices. A ramp’s listed price should not be mistaken for the entire drive downtown.

Use the Chisholm Trail corridor map to identify your access points, then confirm the trip total with the calculator.

Toll roads to recognize across Tarrant and Dallas counties

Knowing the road names helps when comparing navigation options:

Road or crossing

Where it may fit your drive

Chisholm Trail Parkway

Southwest Fort Worth and communities toward Cleburne

360 Tollway

Arlington, Grand Prairie and Mansfield

President George Bush Turnpike

Connections across the eastern Metroplex, including the SH 161 corridor

Dallas North Tollway

Downtown Dallas toward northern employment centers

Mountain Creek Lake Bridge

A southern Dallas County crossing

Addison Airport Toll Tunnel

An east–west connection beneath Addison Airport

NTTA’s Roads & Projects directory provides individual road pages and maps. Its broader network also includes Sam Rayburn Tollway and Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge, which may matter for commutes extending farther north.

Here are additional published two-axle examples:

These are examples from NTTA’s schedule labeled July 1, 2025–June 30, 2027. Confirm current pricing before travel, especially for trailers or vehicles with additional axles.

Your payment method makes a difference

In the published schedule, ZipCash charges are twice the TollTag rates. For a regular commuter, that difference deserves attention.

Consider a hypothetical route costing $3 each way with a TollTag. At 20 commuting days per month:

Payment method

Daily round trip

Monthly tolls

TollTag

$6

$120

ZipCash at double the rate

$12

$240

That’s an illustrative calculation, not a quote for a particular route. It shows why checking your payment setup can matter more than shaving a few miles off the drive.

TEXpress lanes work differently

This distinction matters for North Fort Worth commuters.

NTTA toll roads and TEXpress lanes use different pricing systems. NTTA explains that it does not operate or set the base rates for TEXpress lanes. Those prices fluctuate with traffic conditions and are established by the respective operators. A TollTag can pay for the trip without making it an NTTA-priced road.

For routes involving I-35W, I-820, SH 183 or LBJ, review the TEXpress website and check the posted price before entering.

A quiet Saturday test drive may give you a very different impression from a Tuesday morning commute.

How long will today’s NTTA rates last?

The published rate table identifies its effective period as July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027. For travel beyond that period, check NTTA’s current announcements and calculator.

NTTA’s rate-setting policy calls for staff recommendations in even-numbered years for potential adjustments in the following odd-numbered year. The board may accept, modify or reject those recommendations. That review schedule should not be treated as a permanent price guarantee.

Check construction before judging the commute

Chisholm Trail Parkway’s southern widening project runs approximately 13 miles from FM 1187 to US 67, with opening anticipated in late 2028. It is south of the parkway’s northern access points near central and southwest Fort Worth.

Check NTTA’s project updates and the City of Fort Worth’s closure information before testing a route. Work on the streets leading to a toll road can influence the drive as much as conditions on the road itself.

Before you choose the house, try the drive

Use the actual home address and workplace entrance. Test the route near your normal departure time, compare toll and toll-free options, and calculate the monthly cost using your real commuting schedule.

Would paying a little more give you meaningful time back? Would leaving 20 minutes earlier make another route comfortable? Those answers are personal—and worth knowing before you move.

A home should work for your weekdays, too.
